On Friday 9 January, the traditional cutting of the New Year's cake took place, as well as the awarding of honorary commendations to the young people who succeeded in their admission to the country's Higher Educational Institutions.
The event was coordinated by Council member, Mrs. Eleftheria Masselou. The evening began with the greeting of the President, Mr. Dimitris Parisis, who proceeded to the cutting of the annual cake. Then followed the awarding of the new Kytherians and Antikytherians who entered the universities during the academic year 2025-2026, either as graduates of Kythera High School or graduating from schools in other regions.
The presentation and coordination of the award ceremony, as well as a symbolic gift, were carried out this year by last year's laureates (Niki Kasimatis, Alexandros Karagiannis and Yannis Mastrodemos), in a beautiful gesture of continuity, so that each generation welcomes the next. The names of all the achievers were announced, regardless of whether they were present at the event.
The event was honoured by the presence of many friends and members of the Association, as well as representatives of institutions and local government. Among others were present. Sotirchos, the representative of the Kytheraic Foundation for Culture and Development Mr. E. Kalligeros, the Secretary of the Union of Anti-Cytherians «Agios Myron» Mr. G. Mr. G. Katsanevas, as well as the Vice President of the Cultural and Recreational Association of the Kythirian Area of Alimos «Myrtidiotissa», Mr. P. Semitekolos.
All of them gave short greetings, exchanged greetings for the new year, wished the students good progress and a successful academic career, and participated in the awarding of the respective commendations.
The evening was concluded with a small reception, during which the members and friends of the Association were given the opportunity to exchange wishes and the young people to get to know each other, renewing our appointment for the next meeting.
The Board of Directors of the Kytheraiki Brotherhood of Piraeus-Athens warmly thanks all those who participated and wishes everyone a happy new year.
At the first opportunity, praise and gifts will also be given to those who could not attend.
