In a few hours, 48 hours have passed since the accident of the ship “Aqua Jewel” in the breakwater of the port of Diakofti. According to unofficial information, the ship will be transported with the help of tugs to the shipyard within the next few hours.
Meanwhile the Mayor of Kythera has already asked the leadership of the Ministry of Maritime Affairs the immediate replacement of the ship on the Piraeus - Kythira - Antikythera - Kissamos and Gythio lines.
The island is closed, problems in everyday life
Despite the requests for the immediate restoration of the ferry service, 48 hours after the accident of the Aqua Jewel, the situation on the island is getting worse as the shops, especially the food and essentials, will not have enough stocks for several days. It is recalled that no transport of goods can be carried out to and from the island, as the ship of the “Porphyrousa” terminal has not returned to the line after its annual maintenance. However, sources say it may speed up its return to the routes, which was scheduled for early March.
The only transportation of Kythera with the outside world at the moment remains the airline, with 4 routes per week.
Finally, it is surprising that there has not yet been an official announcement from the shipowner regarding the incident, but also the forecast of the re-operation of the line.
