The difficult weather conditions, reminiscent of winter, and the strong wind may have discouraged many to start from Kythera River, but they were not enough to cut the enthusiasm of the 37 cyclists, who started for the three routes of 72, 33 and 18 km respectively.
It took Petridis, the second Greek champion in the Marathon event, about three and a half hours to cover the 72 km route, which crossed most of the island's settlements, with a mixed race course consisting of classic paths, dirt roads, loose and rocky sections, as well as asphalt tracks.
In the shorter distances Sotiris Angelakis and Anargyros Sofios were the winners, at 33 and 18 km respectively, with Despina Voutyra and Phoebe Koutselou as winners, in the women's rankings of the two above distances
So the 72km of the Kythera Cycling Marathon was a real challenge, it left the best impressions on everyone!
The Kytherian Foundation for Culture and Development as the organizer of the race publicly thanks the SVELTA team for the excellent cooperation, the Kythera Police Department, which was there when needed at the right time, taking care of the safety of the competitors, the Municipality of Kythera, the Property Committee, the Forestry Department of Piraeus, the Greek Cycling Federation, the sponsors and of course the associations of the villages and settlements and the dozens of residents of the island who volunteered to help at the various stages of the race, bringing to fruition this unprecedented and impressive for the island venture.
