Two water supply contracts were signed by the Mayor of Kythera Efstratios Harhalakis today, on 29 December 2023. The projects financed by the Recovery and Resilience Fund «ELLADA 2.0» are for a) eleven boreholes in Kythera and two in Antikythera and b) the completion of the telemetry and automatic control system of the water supply infrastructure of the Kythera Municipality. Read in detail in the press release of the Municipality of Kythera.
The new water supply projects of the Recovery Fund in Kythera begin
During the last working day of 2023, on Friday 29-12, the Mayor of Kythera signed the contracts of two very important water supply projects, fully funded by the Recovery and Resilience Fund «ELLADA 2.0», with a total amount of funding (before tendering) of 3.703.775€ including VAT.
Α) DRILLING AND REPLACEMENT OF MUNICIPAL BOREHOLES IN KYTHERA AND ANTI-KYTHERA
The overall financial scope of the contract is 629.999,11€ with VAT and the contractor is the company «ENVIRONMENTAL ENGINEERING COMPANY» based in Thessaloniki, which was the successful bidder after the electronic tender conducted by our Municipality.
The project has huge importance for the water supply of Kythera as it relates to replacement of important wells throughout the island (a total of 11 in Kythera) which, due to many years of continuous pumping, have been stressed and need to be replaced according to the hydrogeological studies carried out. In addition, 2 new wells will be drilled in Antikythera.
The project includes drilling, exploration and sampling, electrical logging, piping (drilling and perimeter pipes), graveling, development and cleaning of each borehole, test pumping, concrete protection base and all the works provided for in the study and the declaration, while a rapid pumping system (filters) will be supplied and installed according to the instructions of the Technical Service of the Municipality.
Β) COMPLETION OF A TELEMETRY AND AUTOMATIC CONTROL SYSTEM FOR THE WATER SUPPLY INFRASTRUCTURE OF THE MUNICIPALITY OF KYTHIRA
The contract has a financial scope 2.911.148,00€ including VAT and the contractor is the company «THITA-FI ATEE» based in Athens.
The object of the contract is the completion of the telemetry system and automatic control of the water supply infrastructure of the Kythera district through the supply, installation and commissioning of equipment for automatic control of water supply networks. The physical scope of the operation includes the following:
- Expansion of the existing remote control - remote management system of the water supply network through the supply, installation and commissioning twenty-eight (28) Local Control Stations (LCS) in reservoirs, water towers, boreholes and pumping stations of the water supply network,
- Sophisticated management of water network pressures through the supply, installation and commissioning fifteen (15) Pressure Management Stations (PMS),
- Supply, installation and commissioning seven (7) Local Quality and Pressure Control Stations (LQCS) for remote monitoring of quality and pressure values at selected points in the internal water supply network,
- Expansion of the existing system of automatic reading of the digital water meters of the water supply network through the supply, installation and commissioning of three hundred (300) Local Consumption Control Stations (LCS) with integrated telemetric communication device and associated hydraulic connection equipment to be installed in existing water outlets of the water supply network,
- Supply, installation and commissioning Fixed Communication Network (FDN) for the automatic reception and transmission of consumption data from existing and new digital water meters,
- Supply Portable Control Stations (PCS) for the portable reception and transmission of consumption data,
- Supply, installation, configuration and extension of software Central Control Station (CCS) with a view to incorporating into them the data of the new stations and
- Provision of training services the staff of the Municipality, Documentation and trial operation of the total system offered.
At this point we must point out that after the implementation and completion of the previous projects a) telemetry - telecontrol - Phase A (PEP Attica) and b) new digital hydrometers (NSRF), the percentage of non-invoiced water in the Kythera district has been reduced by 32% on average, while there is also a significant reduction in water losses from leakages, which has resulted in better management of the island's water resources and a reasonable increase in the Municipality's revenues, which in their entirety are attributed to the local community.
These new projects in combination with the other water supply projects that have either been completed (e.g. desalination in Ag. Pelagia and Diakofti, new boreholes etc.) or are in tender - in progress, such as the new water supply network of Ag. Pelagia, the new desalination in Kapsali and Paleopolis/Avlemonas, the project to replace existing water supply networks of about 23km in length throughout the island, etc.etc. prove that our Municipal Authority is investing steadily in the improvement of the critical infrastructure of our island, which is necessary for the development of tourism, implementing precisely every commitment to its citizens.
The next objective of the Municipal Authority in the water supply sector is the replacement of all obsolete water supply networks and the construction of new large capacity tanks throughout the island, projects of great importance for the smooth and uninterrupted water supply of Kythera in the coming years.
