At midnight last Saturday to Sunday, the Mayor of Kythera made a post on his personal Facebook account, which referred to a Kythera.News article about dangerous potholes. In his post, he expressed himself with partly inelegant and in our opinion unkind style towards us, the working journalists - editors of the electronic media Kythera.News. We are sorry but we had no intention of provoking his lawsuit on this matter. After this «unfortunate» development we want to publicly respond to the Mayor as follows:
Dear Mr. Mayor, you have misunderstood us. Be careful what exactly happened:
In the last few days a reader sent us photos of the critical spot outside the Hospital turnaround, which you can understand is dangerous for both drivers and any passing ambulance carrying patients. Responding as to any request or message from a citizen, and as we should, we published the photos to warn drivers and then we informed the Technical Service of the Municipality to take action.
In the days that followed, our readers, on the occasion of the first article, sent us more photos of dangerous places and we published them. We also want to share with you that afterwards, as we walked around the island, we met our fellow citizens, who told us about other dangerous places, such as the roads of Potamos, on the route from Ano and Kato Livadi to Kalamos, etc..
In this particular case, we did not intend to judge your work on the pits. In fact, in order to contribute to the faster recording of such issues, we are pleased to inform you that in cooperation with our technicians we will develop in a short time, an intelligent information application. With this application every citizen will be able to record the problem where it exists. The application we will make it available free of charge and our technicians will work pro bono for this.
As far as the visibility of your person, your activities, the press releases, Transparency, you are doing us an injustice. On a daily basis we cover the story and even we are always here to give you a platform, as we have done in the past. As for the issue of public works, you are again doing us an injustice. You will find so many articles and reports in our pages.
In any case, thank you for mentioning our team, for reading us and we are always at your disposal for any intervention and communication.
