Kythera.News: questions and answers about the Kythera ferry connection

The Kythera.News after questions received from readers as regards the subsidised ferry service Piraeus - Kythera - Antikythera - Crete - Peloponnese, and to avoid any inconvenience, the following should be noted:

1. To date no timetable has been published for the period after 11 April, which is of concern to the travelling public, in particular for the scheduling of Easter, but also more generally for the tourist season.
2. Continue reading almost every week the route modifications, most of the time weather conditions invoked, «blowing up» any daily transport and travel planning, for the residents of Kythera, as well as professionals of transport companies and the supply chain. This makes it impossible for residents to plan any health or private business trip to the Prefecture of Attica.
3. According to leaks and without confirmation to date, in the tender for the above line was underwritten by the company JumboJet (Aqua Jewel). Reports indicate that the Zante Ferries company who did not qualify intends to initiate an objection procedure in this respect.
4. It is not known when the new bidder will take over the service of the line, but it is noted that the tender was delayed by several months, due to the fault of the Ministry of Shipping.
5. To date it is not known whether the Ministry of Shipping has been informed by the Local Authorities about the situation of the transport as described above.
