Sun. Mitsotakis : «Greece of 2023 is stronger than ever»

«Greece in 2023 is stronger than ever—geopolitically, economically, and socially. It protects its borders and national dignity, strengthens its alliances, and harnesses its natural and energy resources. With its collective wealth flowing back into society.».

The above is mentioned, among other things, in a written message from the Prime Minister and President of New Democracy, Kyriakos Mitsotakis, which was read during an event organized today in Patras by the New Democracy Achaea Election Steering Committee for the New Year’s pie-cutting ceremony, with Foreign Minister Nikos Dendias as the keynote speaker.

Referring to the new year, Kyriakos Mitsotakis notes in his written message that «We welcome 2023 proud of what we have achieved and optimistic about what lies ahead,» and adds regarding the upcoming parliamentary elections: «Our first four-year term in office will soon come to a close. However, with the vote of our people, the New Democracy’s second term may also begin. It’s in our hands. And that’s exactly what will happen.».

He also emphasizes that «we are building a country that is moving forward and looking ahead, and we have a duty to consolidate this path of progress in the upcoming elections, with a second strong mandate for progress.».

Kyriakos Mitsotakis then addressed the participants at the event in his message, asking them to convey «the party’s message to every citizen, everywhere in the country, with an open mind, a spirit of unity, and persuasive arguments,» adding: «Because the country cannot relive the nightmare of the past or become a hostage to political instability. It needs stability, consistency, and continuity. So let’s make 2023 the starting point of a new, optimistic path. Let our compass be the patriotism of responsibility and the prosperity of society. With the national helm in the hands of those who know how to weather the storms.».

Below is the full message from Prime Minister and New Democracy (ND) President Kyriakos Mitsotakis:

«Members of the New Democracy Party,

We welcome 2023 proud of what we have achieved and optimistic about what lies ahead. Our first four-year term in office will soon come to an end. However, with the vote of our people, the New Democracy’s second term could also begin. It’s in our hands. And that’s exactly what will happen!

Since the summer of 2019, we have weathered many successive crises: first, the migrant influxes into Evros. Immediately after that, the coronavirus pandemic. Then, the energy crisis triggered by the war in Ukraine and the resulting global price hikes. And, constantly, Turkey’s aggression.

In the face of these challenges, citizens and the State fought and prevailed together. The economy and society remained standing thanks to the State’s courageous support. Meanwhile, the government has delivered on its commitments. Indeed, Greek men and women are now paying lower taxes, ENFIA property taxes, and social security contributions.

National defense is being strengthened with modern fighter jets and frigates. Our exports are at record levels. And investments have already created 250,000 new jobs. The country ranks among the leaders in economic growth. And European supervision is now a thing of the past. Therefore, our motto, «We said it, we did it,» holds true in every respect.

Just as is the case with so much of what we «say and do» these days. So, soon, 2,500,000 retirees, doctors, and military personnel will see increases in their pay. Everyone will benefit from the universal abolition of the solidarity levy. Young workers, in particular, will benefit from the third consecutive increase in the minimum wage.

At the same time, the government is building a buffer against current price hikes—through subsidies for electricity and fuel, and by applying a reduced VAT rate to livestock farmers and farmers— Through the household benefits package. And by covering 10% of every family’s basic expenses, from February through the summer.

Greece in 2023, then, is stronger than ever—geopolitically, economically, and socially. It protects its borders and national dignity, strengthens its alliances, and makes the most of its natural and energy resources. Its collective wealth is flowing back into society.

A society that now communicates with the government digitally. Without bureaucracy, long lines, or hassle. A society that enjoys a better quality of life. Studying in schools and universities that offer the younger generation a promising professional future. And now having access to free preventive medical checkups.

None of this happened without obstacles or mistakes. We overcome the former, while we learn from the latter. In this way, we are building a country that moves forward and looks ahead. And we have a duty to consolidate this path of progress in the upcoming elections—with a second strong mandate to move forward.

A lot has been accomplished. But much more lies ahead. Even better wages. Affordable housing, especially for the younger generation. And decent public health care for everyone. With modern hospitals and proper primary care. These are our new goals for the next four years. And we will achieve them!

As we stand on the threshold of the new year, I address you in particular—the heart and soul of our party: New Democracy members, I thank you for your dedication all this time. I invite you to stand by my side in this noble struggle for our next victory—for a self-reliant Greece and a mighty New Democracy.

I ask you to convey our party’s message to every citizen, everywhere in the country. With an open mind, a spirit of unity, and persuasive arguments. Because the country cannot relive the nightmare of the past or become a hostage to political instability. It needs stability, consistency, and continuity!

So let’s make 2023 the starting point of a new, optimistic journey. Let our compass be patriotism rooted in responsibility and the well-being of society. With the national helm in the hands of those who know how to weather the storms. And let’s hold our blue hearts and flags high! Good health and strength to all!»
