The national football team of North Macedonia made its first appearance in a European Championship on Sunday, 13/06, playing against the Austrian national team, from which it was defeated 3-1, in the first round of Group C.
The match was broadcast by the state television of North Macedonia, “MRT”, which has the rights to broadcast EURO 2020 in the country.
Despite the fact that “MRT” is directly financed from the state budget of North Macedonia (not from a contribution fee) and therefore, according to the Prespa Agreement is obliged to use the official name of the country, in the broadcast of the match it did the complete opposite, without even keeping the pretense: the two commentators of the match kept talking about «national Macedonia» and calling the country «Macedonia».
At no time during the whole struggle did they refer to the «nationality of North Macedonia» or use the new name of the country, «North Macedonia».
