In a press release, the Kythira Foundation for Culture and Development announces its participation in Cross-party Committee of the Municipality of Kythira on the subject of wind turbines, reiterating its long-standing position on «sustainable development and improvement of living conditions on the island,» but far from any reprehensible action on the part of energy companies that could harm the island.
The press release states:
«At the Board meeting on 31of In May 2021, the Municipality of Kythira formed a Cross-Party Committee to examine and submit proposals on the issue of wind turbines and renewable energy sources in general, at various locations on Kythira. KIPA, considering that the preservation and protection of the island's threatened natural and cultural environment is a matter of absolute priority, participated in the convening procedures and actively participates in the committee with the member of the Foundation's Board of Directors, Mr. Ioannis Travasaros.
In a spirit of harmony and unity, following a proposal by the Mayor, the committee is called upon to address this very serious issue for the future of our island.
KIPA, along with the other programs and actions it has organized concerning the protection, sustainable development, and improvement of living conditions on the island, has been, from the outset, a supporter and guardian in the fight against the uncontrolled and illegal actions of energy production companies.
The people of Kythira, united once again, demonstrate their love for their homeland through the struggles and responsible attitude of the citizens, organizations, and institutions of the island, as has always been the case during difficult moments in Kythira's history.
