KIPA: The love of the French for Kythera and hiking tourism

In the compilation of the Kythira version hiking tourism with the French public, as reflected at the specialized hiking tourism exhibition in Europe “Le Salon Du Randonneur 2022,” held in Lyon, according to a press release from the Kythira Foundation for Culture and Development.

The press release states:

French hikers welcomed the «Kythera Trails» with great interest. O Municipality of Kythira It participated for the first time in the «Le Salon du Randonneur» International Exhibition in Lyon, France, which took place March 25–27, 2022. .

The Kythira delegation’s mission was a resounding success, and the news was reposted on well-known websites. At the same time, ERT1«s morning show »Me Nea Matia” aired a live segment from Lyon and the Eleni Misio, a contributor to Paths of Greece, especially for the «Trails of Kythira.» .

From our interactions with visitors at the exhibition, it became clear that the French are looking for quiet and authentic destinations, far from mass tourism. Thus, Kythira has a competitive advantage, especially for visitors outside the summer season, as an unspoiled destination with a comprehensive network of trails, high-quality infrastructure, and a wealth of outdoor activities.

The French are familiar with Kythira through the arts and mythology, but it is less well known as a tourist destination. So, we invited them to «disembark on the island of love,» as Kythira is known in French literature and painting.

Already, some of the largest French hiking tour agencies offer organized hiking packages that include Kythira.

Participation in the exhibition was organized in collaboration with the Paths of Greece. The Municipality of Kythira, in partnership with KIPA, MedINA, and the Local Property Committee, has been investing since 2017 in the sustainable tourism development of Kythira, with the goal of extending the tourist season, strengthening the local economy, and creating jobs.
