The fire that broke out earlier today, Sunday, February 19, at the location «Karvounolakos» in Potamos, Kythira, has been brought under control.
The firefighting forces responded immediately and in large numbers, despite the strong winds of 6 Beaufort blowing on the island today.
Firefighters, volunteers, and citizens managed to bring it under control very quickly.
According to the information available so far, the fire burned approximately 30 acres of low forest area.
A total of 20 firefighters and volunteers, three fire trucks from the fire department, the municipal fire department with the Deputy Mayor for Civil Protection and volunteer Fire Chief Yiannis Katsanevakis, a construction machine, and a water tanker.
The cause of the fire is being investigated by the Fire Department's investigative unit.
