According to the police statement: A case was filed by the State Security Subdivision of the Attica Security Directorate against two (2) residents for violation of Article 148 of the Criminal Code (espionage) and Law 376/1936 (on security measures for fortified positions) in conspiracy.
Of the above, one works on a passenger ship, which operates ferry services connecting the island of Rhodes with the island of Megisti (Kastelorizo) and the other works at a Consular Authority in Rhodes.
The entire investigation of the case was carried out in close cooperation with the N.Y.I.P. and the assistance of the Rhodes Security Sub-Directorate.
According to information from “Demokratiki”, this is a native of Komotini, a cook on a ship that operates on the barren line Kastelorizo - Rhodes and other islands, who had been under surveillance since August 2020.
According to the information, his contacts and telephone conversations were systematically recorded, from which it appears that he provided classified-military information to the Turks.
The same information indicates that he has detailed his modus operandi in cooperation with the latter.
The other accused has been in the news in the past and serves in a key position at the Turkish Consulate in Rhodes. He had contacts with the former and is duly regarded as his main contact with the Turks.
According to “Demokratiki”, a search was conducted at his home in the presence of a judicial officer and computers and phones were seized.
He requested and was given five days to explain himself in the presence of a lawyer.
As “Demokratiki” wrote in the past, a serious issue had arisen in February 2017 regarding the activity of the latter person, which even reached the Hellenic Parliament.
