The Ethics Committee gave a majority positive opinion to the Plenary on the lifting of immunity for the SYRIZA MP, Stavros Arachovitis, with regard to the case file sent to Parliament concerning the case of Folli Follie.
The New Democracy and Greek Solution parties voted in favor of lifting the MP's immunity. SYRIZA, KKE, and MERA25 voted against, while KINAL abstained.
According to reports, Mr. Arachovitis left the decision on whether or not to lift his immunity to the discretion of the Committee members. Although all parties agreed that the evidence in the case file was insufficient, New Democracy MPs justified their vote in favor of the prosecutor's request to lift the MP's immunity on the grounds that the House of Representatives does not have the authority to examine the substance of cases, but only to judge whether the matters under investigation fall within the scope of his parliamentary duties and actions.
