Heatwave conditions continue across the country today, and according to the National Meteorological Service, temperatures will remain high, reaching 40 to 41 degrees Celsius.
At the same time, it is noted that conditions of high heat stress are expected in many mainland regions due to the particularly high temperatures forecast.
According to the National Meteorological Service, the weather will be generally clear in most areas, with temporary cloud cover over the mainland during the midday and afternoon hours; at that time, in the north—especially in the mountains— there will be local showers, and in central and eastern Macedonia and Thrace, thunderstorms are expected, while there is a likelihood of some African dust being carried into the atmosphere, mainly in the west.
Winds in the west will initially be light and variable, and from midday onward, they will blow from the west-northwest at 3 to 4 and locally 5 Beaufort. In the east, winds will blow from the north at 3 to 5 Beaufort, and locally up to 6 Beaufort in the Aegean Sea.
Temperatures will remain high. They will reach 33 to 34 degrees in the Cyclades, in the rest of the islands 35 to 37 degrees, locally reaching 38 degrees, and on the mainland 38 to 39 degrees, locally reaching 40 to 41 degrees Celsius.
THESSALONIKI
Weather: Temporary cloudiness with a chance of thunderstorms overnight through the early morning hours, followed by generally clear skies; however, cloud cover is expected to increase again during the midday and afternoon hours, bringing local showers to the surrounding mountainous areas.
Winds: Variable, 2 to 3, and in the midday to afternoon hours, southerly to southeasterly winds up to 4 Beaufort.
Temperature: From 24 to 37 degrees Celsius.
MACEDONIA, THRACE
Weather: In Central and Eastern Macedonia and Thrace, there will be passing clouds with local showers and thunderstorms overnight through the early morning hours; after which the weather will improve; however, cloud cover is expected to increase again during the midday and afternoon hours, bringing local showers and thunderstorms. In Western Macedonia, the weather will be generally clear with temporary cloud cover during the midday and afternoon hours, when local showers and possibly isolated thunderstorms will occur.
Winds: Variable 3 to 4 Beaufort.
Temperature: From 21 to 37–38 degrees Celsius, and locally in Central Macedonia up to 39 degrees Celsius. In Western Macedonia, the low will be 2 to 3 degrees lower.
ATTICA
Weather: Generally clear with a few passing clouds during the midday and afternoon hours.
Winds: Variable 3 to 4 Beaufort.
Temperature: From 25 to 37–38 degrees Celsius. In coastal areas, the high will be 2 to 3 degrees lower.
IONIAN ISLANDS, EPIRUS, WESTERN GREECE, WESTERN PELOPONNESE
Weather: Generally clear with temporary cloud cover over the mainland during the midday and afternoon hours.
Winds: Variable and light; from noon onward, west-northwest at 3 to 4 Beaufort, and locally in the Ionian Sea at 5 Beaufort.
Temperature: From 23 to 37 degrees Celsius, and on the mainland 38 to 39 degrees Celsius, with local highs of 40 degrees Celsius. In Epirus, the low will be 2 to 3 degrees lower.
THESSALY, EASTERN SOLIDIA, EUBOEA, EASTERN PELOPONNESE
Weather: Generally clear with a few temporary clouds over the mainland during the midday and afternoon hours, when local showers or thunderstorms are possible in the mountainous areas of Thessaly.
Winds: Variable 3 to 4 Beaufort.
Temperature: From 22 to 38 to 39, and locally 40 to 41 degrees Celsius.
CYCLADES, CRETE
Weather: clear.
Winds: From the north at 4 to 5 Beaufort, and 6 Beaufort in the east.
Temperature: From 23 to 34 degrees Celsius, and locally in Crete, 35 to 36 degrees Celsius.
EASTERN AEGEAN ISLANDS – DODECANESE
Weather: clear.
Winds: From northern directions 4 to 6 Beaufort.
Temperature: From 22 to 36, with highs of 37 and, locally in the south, 38 degrees Celsius.
