Islamic Turkey is upsetting our Muslim fellow citizens

One day before the meeting with Turco Dendias arrived in Istanbul to meet with the Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew, the Ecumenical Patriarch of Constantinople. The meeting took place about two weeks before the Orthodox Easter.

About two weeks before the end of Ramadan and the Eid holiday, the Turkish Deputy Foreign Minister announced that he will make a private visit to Thrace.

The Turkish visitor's itinerary includes meetings with every illegal Expression with which Turkey chooses to communicate, trying to promote interventionist, divisive policies in EU countries, Germany, Austria, France, Greece.

For Greece, the specific Turkish behavior is not unprecedented and it certainly does not take Athens by surprise. Ankara, Kemalist or Islamic, persists in its provocative behaviour even though its political and historical course 1923-2021 proves its failure. If the beggar, and every ordinary citizen, considers the wasted work of Ankara and the monetary cost paid by the Turkish people for a policy of zero return, then he realizes the dead-end policies over time, which have reduced Turkey to facing in our time the thesis impeachment of allies and competitors.

In 2000, in an alternative approach to C. Papandreou-I. Jem, the «friendship train» travelled. Arbitrary and provocative Turkish methods cancelled the «mutual understanding and mutual respect» initiative. Remnant of the noble diplomatic action is the realization, clearly underlined in good time by the official structure of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, but also by the majority of the minority, that the minority cannot be a bridge for the development of Greek-Turkish relations. As a wise and wise eminent Muslim interlocutor said in his communications with politicians and non-governmental organizations «you cannot stop the conflict of the complements, Greece-Turkey, placing between them an egg, the minority of Thrace or the Romans of Constantinople».

The correctness of the thinking of the representative of the majority of the minority is confirmed by the persistence of Ankara in similar «private» visits of officials of the Turkish government of the day with Ministers of State, but also Mr Erdogan himself, as Prime Minister of his country, demanding that the unofficial programme of the visit be set in Ankara. In the end, however, everything is set by Athens according to the Evaluation and the priorities that serve our foreign policy.

Ankara accepts with diplomatic stoicism that the «private visit” should move along the main road axis and not along the provincial roads preferred by the »high visitor“. States that practice consistent and serious diplomacy have the mechanisms and means to impose on their territory the appropriate diplomatic and ”other« protocol options that sovereignty and national dignity require. Public opinion, at specific moments, especially when internationally important issues are evolving, should also be informed of some particular aspects of the work that governments are doing to continuously and persistently promote the interests of our country diplomatically.

Two weeks before the completion of Ramadan, period devotion and prayer of Muslims, Islamic Turkey chooses to visit Thrace to disturb the tranquility of the prayer of our Muslim fellow citizens. President Erdogan, who has deeply studied his religion since his childhood, knows the importance of the last two weeks of Ramadan for religious devotion and reconciliation.

For his political choices during the Ramadan period, he should probably re-read the relevant surahs of the Holy Book and ask the great teachers of his religion for any relevant fatwa that would allow him to explain to the Muslim world this political behaviour that is incompatible with the teachings of Islam. But he avoids it because he knows that the major religious centres of Islam do not share his stance.

The desperation of the Turkish leader and his wrong choices have been duly pointed out. The insistence on the S-400 anti-aircraft system, the facilities for the Russian nuclear facility in Aquiyu, the involvement in the Syrian conflict, Libya, Yemen, Sudan, the expensive military operations in regions of the world, the provocative and failed exploitation of the refugee problem, the internal problems cost the Turkey.

At the forefront of the debate is now the intense concern about the political and diplomatic future of the country, the squandering of foreign exchange reserves and the disappearance of gold reserves at a level that the Turkish economy cannot afford, despite the financial support it receives from like-minded countries. The Muslims investors in Turkey are shaken by President Erdogan's political and religious behaviour, but Muslim countries are also concerned by the overt interventionism aimed at destabilising their societies.

Even her closest friends Ankara, are telling us in private, but also in very high-level political meetings, of the concern caused by Turkish intrusive arbitrary behaviour, as well as the international problems that may arise to their detriment from close cooperation with the unabashed and provocative Turkish leadership.

The «private» visit of Turkish Foreign Minister Kiran to the Thrace has no momentum. It is a second-rate political move with no resonance in EU, UN and US diplomacy towards Turkey. In Geneva, the international community showed the Turkish diplomacy in practice that its arbitrary acts of Ankara restore, to the satisfaction of many, the issues to their proper basis, status quo ante (let us all hold on to that), and in particular the Cyprus problem in the framework set and demanded by the UN, the US and the EU, confirming the truth of the matter.
