The diplomacy of USA asserted yesterday Tuesday that Washington remains open to the possibility of negotiations with North Korea, despite Pyongyang's new «provocations», following the announcement of the Kim Jong-un that it is intended to «strengthen» and «develop» the nuclear arsenal of his country.
«We remain open to diplomacy and dialogue with North Korea» in order to end the Asian country's nuclear weapons programme, US State Department spokesman Ned Price said during a briefing for accredited editors.
However, he added, the US has «an obligation to respond to North Korea's recent provocations», in particular the two recent ballistic missile launches.
The announcement of Kim Jong-un's intention to «strengthen and develop» the North Korean nuclear arsenal confirms that «North Korea represents a threat to international peace and security and to the non-proliferation protocol» of nuclear weapons, the State Department spokesman said.
