«The government has announced measures within its own failed recipe,» claimed the press spokesman of the SYRIZA-P.S., Nassos Iliopoulos, speaking on Monday night on the «Interventions» show on BlueSky.
«On March 4, the Prime Minister told us that we are entering the final stretch of the battle, and today there are no empty ICU beds in Attica. Either he was consciously lying or he is out of time. In any case, he is dangerous,» he accused the prime minister.
On the response to the pandemic, he noted: «It is a central policy choice of the government to leave the private sector out of the battle...No protection measures have been taken in workplaces and means of transport, as recommended by experts...At the same time, the Southwest has reduced this year's public health budget by 600 billion euros, and compared to last year the NHS has 1,680 fewer employees.».
He also referred to the recent dismissal of a doctor from the public hospital «St. Savas’, -when at the same time doctors are being transferred from public hospitals to private clinics that are supposedly being requisitioned- to conclude: »This is not a requisition of the private sector, it is speculation on public backs«, while also noting the »more than doubling of the daily hospitalization in private ICUs from 800 to 1,700 euros«.
The press spokesman referred to the need to adopt the proposals of SYRIZA-P.S. for the support of workers, the regulation of the private debt of the pandemic - with the cancellation of part of it and the regulation of the rest with a scheme similar to 120 installments - and the withdrawal of the bankruptcy law. He reiterated the need to «prescribe coronavirus tests immediately», because «turning tests into a matter of individual responsibility is not a solution, and to take measures for workplaces and means of transport, which are the main sources of transmission».
Finally, commenting on the polls, he noted that the latest polling data show the rise of SYRIZA-P.S., but stressed that «in a non-election period, what we should all look at is the qualitative data of the measurements, which record the negative aspect of the government's work. On the contrary, specific proposals of SYRIZA-P.S. record majorities in society».
