In today's Gospel we heard about the the parable of the rich and poor Lazarus, which is one of the most characteristic phases of the social problem of humanity.
In the same space, at the same time, the most challenging inequality is for Lazarus to starve and suffer and the rich man to feast and enjoy.
The same drama continues today, in the same place and at the same time, with some living in luxury and skyscrapers and others in slums and shacks.
Some dressed in silk and others in rags. Some can be educated easily and others do not even have the necessities for their education.
The most dramatic of all is the tragic exploitation of the social problem.
All social and political systems not only failed to solve the problem revolutionarily, but complicated it for the worse.
The Holy Gospel, of course, is not intended to address problems of a social, political or economic nature, nor to compare people on purely secular criteria.
Undoubtedly, there are saints, whether rich or poor, and there are sinners in both these social spheres. The greatest issue raised in the Parable is that of repentance.
Ἡ metanoia Located at challenge of life for both rich and poor Lazarus. The only difference is that the poor Lazarus suffered and suffered in the present life and this was a kind of purification, while the rich man with his contemptuous and selfish behavior aggravated his position.
The call to repentance and change of mindset of life and attitude towards others is a matter only of the present life and not of the future. Nor can one postpone the hour of repentance until later, because the end always comes unexpectedly and unexpectedly. Therefore, the appropriate time for repentance and radical change is now. Now and not later!
