Today, Monday 28 April 2025, there is a no sailing ban due to strong winds reaching up to 8 Beaufort in some areas. Indeed, the weather conditions do not allow sailing from several ports, including Piraeus, Rafina and Lavrio.
However, according to official weather forecasts, already from Wednesday 30 April and Thursday 1 May the winds drop significantly to 5-6 Beaufort, especially in the sea area of Kythera - Antikythera - Neapolis. It is about conditions fully manageable for a ferry boat of its class Aqua Jewel. (See at the end of the article the snapshots of the predicted waves of the Kythera Sea).
The Aqua Jewel: Could perform itinerary for Kythera;
✔️ On Wednesday 30/4 and Thursday 1/5, winds of 5-6 Beaufort are forecast, a level suitable for normal sailing with vessels of approximately 100 meters in length such as the Aqua Jewel.
✔️ Many other ferries on the Cyclades and Saronic Islands route will continue to operate under similar conditions without cancellations on Wednesday and Thursday.
✔️ It was possible to a modified itinerary is organised, adjusting departure and return times accordingly, serving passengers, freight and the local economy.
Instead, the Aqua Jewel chooses to remain tied, leaving Kythera and Antikythera unconnected, at a time of increased needs and in view of the May Day.
No sailing ban in force (Monday 28 April 2025)
In detail, today's sailing ban includes:
• From Piraeus: The passenger ferry is not operating Catherine P. and the catamarans super jet and Champion Jet.
• From Rafina and Lavrio: Also in force a no sailing ban.
• For Argosaronikos: Services are running as normal.
Passengers are advised to contact their local port authorities and agencies for any changes or modifications to the routes.

The choice of Aqua Jewel not to plan a single alternative is disappointing. On the contrary, the small but respectable Porphyrousa demonstrates what consistency and responsibility mean.
