Ad. Georgiades: Since we took office, we have been making tax cuts, not increases

«There will be no compensation and support measures for those affected by the measures taken in areas with a high epidemiological burden - The responsibility lies with the unvaccinated,» the Development Minister said.

On inflationary pressures our economy and the new plan to tackle the crisis in the pandemic, was mentioned the Minister of Development and Investment Adonis Georgiades, speaking today on his show ANT1. As the minister said, probably tomorrow, the political leadership of the Ministry of Health will announce the new plan to address the coronavirus pandemic. Regarding the parades, Georgiades, Mr Georgiades said that the will is to be carried out, but it is logical to have reservations about areas where the epidemiological data is burdened. He noted that tomorrow there will be announcements and for this from the Minister Mr. Plevris, while adding that deplores the low vaccination rates in northern Greece.

Commenting on the deaths in our country from coronavirus complications compared to other European countries, he said that lately the rates have indeed increased and this is due to the low vaccination rate in our country which is around 65%, while for example in northern European countries it exceeds 90%.

Asked whether there would be compensation and support measures for those affected by the measures taken in areas with a high epidemiological burden, he ruled it out, saying the economy would not be able to withstand a new round of benefits. He stressed that the real responsibility for this situation lies with those who choose not to be vaccinated.

Referring to the inflationary pressures on our economy, Georgiades said that our country has lower inflation than most European countries. He added that the current government, from the first day in office, has been doing nothing but tax cuts and no increases. But if he goes for a big reduction, for example in the excise duty, which he admitted is too high, this will have an impact on public finances. Georgiades assured that as long as growth continues, at this rate, then the government will be able to consider other measures to reduce taxes and provide relief to citizens.
