Konstantinopoulos: We cannot form a coalition government with Mr. Mitsotakis or Mr. Tsipras as prime minister

Odysseas Konstantinopoulos, speaking on REAL FM radio, addressed, among other things, the issue of post-election alliances and the position of PASOK-Movement for Change.

«Mr. Mitsotakis and Mr. Tsipras agree that the leader of the party with the most seats should also be prime minister. Mr. Tsipras can support Mr. Mitsotakis for prime minister if he wishes,» he emphasized, outlining the position of PASOK-Movement for Change:

«We respect the people’s vote. I believe there will be no need for a second round of elections. No one will take it upon themselves to keep dragging the country into elections. Our proposal is to hold elections that respect the results of the first Sunday’s vote,» said Mr. Konstantinopoulos, explaining in more detail: «We will set our conditions, which, as N. Androulakis, will be, on the one hand, the implementation of our social democratic program, which is for the benefit of the citizens, and, on the other hand, that we will not enter into a coalition government with Mr. Mitsotakis or Mr. Tsipras as prime minister. We are talking about policy convergence, which will benefit citizens only if our program is adopted and implemented. For example, will the two parties agree to enact a law protecting primary residences and preventing loans from being granted to investment funds? Will they accept our proposals on social policy?».

Regarding the poll results, the Vice Speaker of Parliament and a close confidant of Nikos Androulakis noted that, as the polls also show, the people will choose New Democracy as the leading party. «I say that they may decide to make PASOK the leading party. The only thing that is certain is that SYRIZA cannot defeat New Democracy. The only party that can win—and this is why we’re calling on progressive voters to stop voting for this fruitless two-party system—is PASOK. We’ve gone from 4% to 11.5%, according to yesterday’s poll.

People used to say that PASOK ruined the country. »Today, everyone wants to govern with PASOK. Since everyone wants us, let them vote directly for PASOK,” Mr. Konstantinopoulos emphasized.
