An impressive and rare image was recorded by the lens of George Samios on Sunday night, October 26th in Kythera. The photograph depicts the Castle of Chora bathed in a golden, almost transcendent light, as the diffusion of the monument's illumination is reflected in the low clouds of the catsyphara that covered the island.
Samios described the scene as «otherworldly», noting that it was the first time he had seen the catsyphara descend so low, «all the way to St Spyridon». The natural phenomenon created a magical atmosphere over Chora, where the lights of the castle turned into a glowing veil of light in the darkness.
This image, beyond its aesthetic power, evokes the mysterious beauty of the Kythera landscape - where light and fog come together, creating moments that seem to belong to another world. Un mondo fa un mondo e Cerigo un latro mondo as the Venetians used to say!
