In a highly ironic statement, the “People First” faction responds to the The municipality's positions on municipal fees, directing her personal attacks at the mayor himself, Efstratios Charhalakis.
In its statement, the main opposition party refers to “petty calculations” in a recent post by the mayor on local media regarding the inability to reduce municipal fees.
She accuses him of making a disproportionate comparison of revenues and expenditures when comparing the municipality’s performance to that of other municipalities, alluding to recently published online articles that mention A 40% reduction in municipal fees on the island of Skiathos.
In closing, the announcement states that the goal of achieving a harmonious balance between revenue and expenditures for every municipality has, for the municipality of Kythira and its current mayor, turned into “a balance of terror, with disastrous consequences for the island.”.
Below is the full text of the statement from the “People First” political faction.
“RESPONSE TO THE “RECTOR” OF MAYORS THROUGHOUT GREECE, MR. EFSTRATIOS HARCHALAKIS, REGARDING MUNICIPAL FEES.”.
Mr. Mayor
In your related post in the local media, you attempted—using simplistic reasoning and crude calculations—to convince us that the municipal government, in the budget it drafted, could not reduce municipal fees.
The truth, however, lies in the sentence you write later in your text: «And we, IF we could, would do the same.»
So it's obvious that………..unfortunately, YOU can't.
The bombastic analysis you are presenting to us is, quite deliberately, completely UNOBJECTIVE and fails to convince either us or any of our fellow citizens, whether they are businesspeople or not.
In the statistical equation you refer to, aside from the municipal revenues you cite, «you »forgot’ (in accordance with your favorite tactic, which is all too familiar to us) to include their expenses of all kinds, which are many times greater than those of our own municipality.”.
Municipal revenues and expenditures are always in harmonious balance in relation to their population, their geographical size, the number of businesses and tourist accommodations, the number of tourists who visit them, etc.
It is therefore up to the current mayor to maintain this balance so that his or her municipality can develop and its citizens can prosper.
UNFORTUNATELY, EVEN IF YOU ARE “ALL-WISE,” YOU CANNOT ACHIEVE THIS. FOR YOU, THIS IS A BALANCE OF TERROR WITH CATASTROPHIC CONSEQUENCES FOR OUR ISLAND.
