Reduction 40% of the 2021 municipal fees in the Municipality of Skiathos

The largest ever reduction in the Municipality of Skiathos in the amount of 40% for the year 2021, is recommended to the Economic Committee by the municipal authority, for all categories of the Municipality's Municipal Charges, due to the difficult circumstances of the pandemic and the prolonged economic crisis.

The aim of the municipal authority is to give practical support to citizens, businesses and vulnerable groups through a policy of economic relief for households and professionals,

The rates of cleaning and lighting charges for the year 2021 are as follows:

  1. Real estate used for the exercise of any economic activity from EUR 7,59 per square metre of m² to EUR 4,59 per square metre
  2. Rooms from €5.72 per square metre to €3.43 per square metre
  3. Property used exclusively for residential purposes from EUR 1.52 per square metre to EUR 0.92 per square metre.
  4. For covered premises used as business premises for service offices such as accounting, technical, legal, law, insurance, medical offices, general tourism offices, etc., from 4.00 euros per square meter to 2.4 euros per square meter
  5. For covered premises used as warehouses for professional use such as warehouses for the distribution of beverages - foodstuffs etc. of up to one thousand (1,000) square metres from 3.79 euros per square metre to 2.3 euros per square metre
  6. For covered premises used as warehouses for professional use such as warehouses for the distribution of drinks - foodstuffs etc. with an area of more than one thousand (1,000) square metres and up to six thousand (6,000) square metres from 1.53 euros per square metre to 0.92 euros per square metre.

“I am particularly proud that we have made the largest reduction ever in the Municipality, despite the difficult financial environment in which the Municipality has to operate. For the Municipal Authority, the policy of reductions in municipal fees is a firm choice, as we want to be close to the citizens and the local community and make efforts to improve the quality of their lives. In fact, this year we reduced the common land use fee by 50% in addition to the State's decision. Especially at this time when residents and businesses have been greatly affected due to the coronavirus pandemic, it is our moral obligation to make significant financial relief. Through prudent financial management, we have managed, despite reduced revenues due to the pandemic and the costs associated with projects, studies, an extensive cleaning program, vehicle purchases, tourism promotion, hiring of staff (cleaning service/weekly contract, home help, emergencies), new leases (cleaning service building and land, EPFL,), cultural events, the City's receipts are 14.420,709.12 euros according to the results of the execution of the revenue budget for the third quarter of 2020 (September 30, 2020), when the corresponding figure for 2019 was 14,400,106.91 euros on September 30, 2019.

We are satisfied, but we are not celebrating and we will continue to support the citizens in every possible way. Our ultimate goal is that through the upgrading of our services every citizen enjoys what they pay for. I would like to warmly thank my colleagues for their valuable contribution with many hours of work, Matoula Papadoulia, President of the Municipal Council, the Deputy Mayors, Nikos Liakopoulos Deputy Mayor of Administration and Transparency Finance, Yannis Giannitsis Deputy Mayor of Sanitation, Recycling and Environment, Yannis Chanakas Deputy Mayor of Development Programs, Infrastructure and Technical Works, Diamantis Mathinos Deputy Mayor of Tourism Development and International Relations, George Antonitsas President of the Municipal Port Fund, Nikos Paschalis Municipal Councillor in charge of sports, Matoula Chondronikoli Municipal Councillor for Social Policy, and Manolis Paschalis Municipal Councillor. Finally, I would like to thank the employees of the Department of Financial Services and especially the Head of the Department, Maria Pezatou for their valuable assistance and cooperation.

The local government must stand up to the circumstances, understand the criticality of the times, stand by the citizen and support him or her in a meaningful way.

We will continue our efforts so that they can meet their obligations in these difficult circumstances that we are all experiencing.” said the Mayor of Skiathos, Thodoris Tzoumas.

  1. Unlike Skiathos, Kythera is not so lucky. The municipal authority stubbornly refuses to support the inhabitants of the island. The opposition's proposals were considered utopian. Dialogue and cooperation in the town council have been abolished at the responsibility of the mayor and the chairman of the town council.
