It’s the end of the road for Nikolaos Farantouris at SYRIZA, as he is being referred to the disciplinary committee.
According to reports, the accounts he presented during his public appearances today regarding his conversation with Socrates Famellos on Tuesday evening (January 6), have caused intense dissatisfaction among the party leadership.
Sources at CNN Greece report that during yesterday’s conversation between the party chairman and the Member of the European Parliament, serious concerns were raised regarding his statements about Maria Karistianou’s party, as these—as they point out—do not reflect SYRIZA’s positions.
In fact, Socrates Famellos asked him to issue a public statement
As the same sources point out, such behavior is unacceptable, and as a result, he is expected to be referred to the party’s disciplinary committee, with a request for his expulsion.
Farantouris's Controversial Statements
It should be noted that Mr. Farantouris, speaking on Parapolitika FM, described as «welcome» the «evolution—even an institutional one—of a citizens» movement« and the »entry into the political arena of a person—an anonymous woman until this morning, with no party credentials, no party background, whom a tragic twist of fate has brought to the forefront of the struggle for justice.”.
«I believe it is both a self-evident obligation and a right; beyond that, I said that I would add my voice to the chorus. I didn’t engage in speculation or make predictions about the future, nor did I prejudge my own path,» he pointed out.
Referring to his conversation with Socrates Famellos, Nikolas Farantouris replied, «I repeated to him what I have said publicly. He asked me if I was still with SYRIZA, and I told him that he had called me in my capacity as a SYRIZA Member of the European Parliament. «If I decide to take a different path and make a different choice, I will duly inform both you and the Greek people, taking full responsibility, without back channels, without leaks, and without intermediaries.».
Mr. Farantouris avoided responding to the «barrel of fire» that Pavlos Polakis had unleashed against him and called on SYRIZA «to clarify, in the run-up to the elections and looking ahead to the future and the coming years, exactly what it wants to be and where it wants to stand.».
He also stated: «Let me remind you that my term runs until 2029, and I remain committed to addressing the major problems facing our country. If anything changes, I’ll let you know; nothing is set in stone.».
