The Potamos Cultural Association of Kythera declares its support for the decision of the Local Community of Potamos - Agia Pelagia on the celebration of the national anniversary of the revolution of 1821.
Calls on the Municipal Authority instead of erasing the history of the place, to turn its attention to the implementation of the announced infrastructure (water supply, sewerage, Stadium, Theatre. Parking, Urban , Redevelopment , Bazaar etc ) in the wider area and the projects that have been stalled.
The attempt to cancel the celebration of national anniversaries in the region is an attempt to erase centuries of history.
Indicatively we recall , the stoning of the lord-tyrant in the twelfth century in Agios Georgios “Kolokithias” in Agia Pelagia, the demolition of the walls of the “Tower” of the laomitic Venetian rule in Potamos, the massacre of the nobles in Agios Theodoros, the first rural revolution of 1798, the unveiling of the bust of General Panos Koronaiou by Eleftherios the Great, the first rural revolution of 1798, the unveiling of the bust of General Panos Koronaiou in Agia Pelagia, the first rural revolution of 1798, the unveiling of the bust of General Panos Koronaiou by Eleftherios the Great, the first rural revolution of 1798, the unveiling of the bust of General Panos Koronaiou in Agia Pelagia.Venizelos in 1911, the declaration of the Autonomous Administration of Kythera under Panagiotis Tsitsilia , the headquarters of EAM in the National Resistance and the signing of the surrender of the Italian carabinieri at the historic hexagonal table located in the Community Hall.
It is this history that the commemorations honour and remind us of our roots and traditions. An integral part of this history is the student parade of the elementary school, the memories of which are kept by all of us who have passed through these desks.
Our association will lay a laurel wreath on 25 March and invites citizens to take part in the parade organised by the local council.
