Questions that are «burning» in the accountability of January 9 are submitted by «All Together»

Old Museum, bequests, and water supply in focus

Three specific issues will be brought up at the accountability meeting on January 9, 2026, by the municipal faction. «All Together – Kythira – Antikythira», raising issues that touch on legality, the management of municipal property, and the daily lives of citizens.

The Old Museum in Chora, the state and transparency of the administration of legacies, and the institutional framework for water supply are being discussed with clear questions and demands for clear answers.

The meeting is eagerly awaited, as the issues raised cannot be sidestepped. In a democracy, information is a right and answering serious questions is an obligation. Below is the press release from the main opposition party.

Burning questions in the January 9 accountability hearing

Old Museum, bequests, and water supply under scrutiny

Three substantive, well-documented, and entirely institutional questions were submitted at the accountability meeting on January 9, 2026, by Municipal Councilors Zacharias Souris, Panagiotis Megalokonomos, and Paraskevas Georgilas will submit three substantive, well-documented, and entirely institutional questions to the accountability meeting on January 9, 2026, bringing to the fore critical issues concerning legality, good governance, transparency in the management of municipal property, and the daily lives of the citizens of Kythira.

The first question concerns exclusively the property of the Old Museum in Chora, Kythira. Despite the fact that a new highest bidder has been legally appointed since February 2024, a decision has been issued by the Court of First Instance of Piraeus on an eviction lawsuit, and relevant actions have already been taken by the competent department of the Municipality, the property has not yet been returned to the rightful owner. The previous user, who is an elected official, continues to remain on the municipal property without an active lease and without any legal cause. The question arises as to what stage the enforcement of the court decision is at, why the eviction has not been completed, and what measures have been taken to return the property. At the same time, a clear answer is requested as to whether the Municipal Authority considers the continued presence of an elected official on municipal property to be compatible with the principles of legality and good administration, despite the existence of a final court decision and opinions that exclude any right of residence.

The second question concerns the major issue of managing the bequests of the Municipality of Kythira. We request full and official information on which legacies are currently managed by the Municipality, which have approved and independent budgets and accounts, which have been presented and approved by the Municipal Council and which have not. We also ask what the deliverables are of the €15,000 contract with a private consulting firm and what stage the process of full settlement and legal administration of the legacies is at.

The third question concerns water supply and the necessary institutional modernization of its operating framework. The Municipal Authority is asked to state clearly whether it intends to proceed with the drafting and approval of new, updated Water Supply Regulations, adapted to the needs of 2026. These regulations should provide for social, professional, and special tariffs, modern management arrangements, and effective control of water supply, as well as a specific implementation timetable or, alternatively, clear reasons for not having promoted them to date.

These questions are not a publicity stunt or an opposition ploy. They are an institutional obligation to citizens and aim to ensure transparency, legitimacy, and accountability. Their publication is necessary so that society is aware of the issues at stake in advance and can evaluate both the answers and the attitude of the municipal authority.

Citizens have a right to be informed.
Accountability is an obligation.
No serious question should remain unanswered.
