The Public Prosecutor's Office will launch an ex officio investigation following the public allegations of Olympic champion Sofia Bekatorou against an agent of the Sailing Federation, whom she named as the perpetrator of sexual abuse she suffered 23 years ago during a business trip.
The head of the Prosecutor's Office Sotiria Papageorgakopoulou intervenes ex officio with the opening of a preliminary investigation in order to determine what exactly happened, in the context of which will be called on Monday or Tuesday the Olympic champion to testify what she has claimed, regardless of whether the alleged act against Ms. Bekatorou has already expired.
Information indicates that Sophia Bekatorou may have mentioned the sexual abuse she had suffered from the named agent, when she testified in the investigation conducted by the Prosecutor's Office under the supervision of Prosecutor Konstantinos Simitzoglou, which was initiated following complaints by Olympic champion Nikos Kaklamanakis for mismanagement in the Sailing Federation.
