The leader of the main opposition party in the municipality of Kissamos, Thodoris Stathakis, has expressed his strong dissatisfaction with the actions of the municipal authorities of Kissamos during the twinning ceremony with the municipality of Kythira.
In his letter, Mr. Stathakis states that the event was downgraded by the way it was organized, as there was no transportation from Kythira and Antikythira for residents of the islands to attend the ceremony, as had been the case during the first part of the twinning on the island of Antikythira, when a large delegation from Kissamos was able to travel there.
In detail, Mr. Stathakis states:
«Last Monday, the 12th of the month, we experienced two events in Kissamos. The first was the celebration of Saint Spyridon, patron saint of the city of Kissamos, which was attended by the Minister of Culture and Sports, Ms. Mendoni, a guest of our Holy Metropolis. At the same time, the mayor of Kissamos thought it appropriate to «involve» the second part of the twinning with the municipality of Kythira in the same event. The reason was to «take advantage» of the celebration to show and say how successful the event was, and for this reason they invited a number of officials from outside the municipality.
This undermined the significance of the twinning, because it took place at a time when there was no sea transport between our city and the municipality of Kythira, so that a large number of people from the «sister» municipality could attend (as is appropriate).
Keep in mind that the first part took place about a year and a half ago in Antikythira, and we had a large delegation from Kissamos participating.
They allowed (under the responsibility of the municipality of Kissamos) such a long period of time to pass without justification and hastily attempted to do so at the wrong time. The result: a) unfortunately, we only had the presence of the Mayor of Kythira (with two representatives of his municipality) and b) a half-empty (or half-full) Tsatsaronakeio Multicenter, without the presence of any of the Mayor of Kissamos's official guests from afar, but also, unfortunately, the absence (because they were not invited) the representatives of our municipality's services and agencies (even for our municipality's municipal councilors, the invitation was «strictly personal»). The only positive thing about this whole event, (which was emphasized by the other speakers and listeners present) was the speech by the Mayor of Kythira, who set the tone and gave meaning to the long-standing relations between the citizens of the two municipalities and beyond.
We thank him and wish him all the best in his future endeavors.
Unfortunately, apart from «Theatine», which he wanted to exploit for publicity reasons, the Mayor of Kissamos did not take advantage of the presence of the Minister to submit proposals for projects in his area of responsibility (at least for «Theatine»). at least, the presence of the Minister to submit proposals for projects in her area of responsibility (even for "Theatine").
We did not hear any issues or requests in his speech, neither at the town hall nor at lunch. Neither about the Museum of Music nor about archaeological projects in the town of Kissamos, in Polyrinia, in ancient Falassarna.
Fortunately, MP Mr. Digalakis at least mentioned the need for funding (for the existing study by Ms. Elpida Hatzidakis) for ancient Falasarna. Unfortunately, some people, no matter how much others help and support them, cannot rise to the occasion and live up to the institution they serve.
