The head of the municipal party «All Together, Kythira - Antikythera», Zacharias I. Souris, paid an official visit to the United Nations (UN) and the Permanent Mission of Greece in New York.
During the visit, Mr. Souris had the honour of meeting with An. Mr. Ioannis Stamatekos, Permanent Representative of Greece to the United Nations, who raised the importance of insularity at a very high level, recognizing the crucial role of island regions in the formulation of sustainable development and social resilience policies.
Mr.Souris, for his part, suggested that Kythera should be a model island for the implementation of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), stressing that the island's unique physiognomy, historical, environmental and cultural, can be a model of balance between tradition and modern sustainability.
During the meeting, issues concerning the participation of local communities in international sustainable development networks, the promotion of cultural heritage as a lever for social cohesion and the role of small islands in international environmental policy and natural resource management were discussed at length.
In addition, a letter of cooperation and information was delivered on behalf of the «All Together, Kythera - Antikythera» faction, aiming at the institutional strengthening of the Local Government's ties with international organizations and the promotion of initiatives that serve sustainability and local development.
This visit is a milestone of institutional extroversion and highlights the commitment of the party «All Together, Kythera - Antikythera» to the vision of a modern, open and internationally connected island administration, which claims an active role and a substantial voice in the major issues of global dialogue.
