Vaccine - Mitsotakis: From 5,000 we go to 8,000 vaccinations a day

«The daily vaccination capacity will increase from 5,000 a day to about 8,000, possibly a little more,» Kyriakos Mitsotakis said.

«The priority which the vaccination committee was clear: vaccination of health workers in public and private hospitals and of course employees and guests in public and private care and hospitality facilities for the elderly,» said the Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, during his introductory statement at the Conference which took place today, Friday 8 January, while stressing: «The daily vaccination capacity will increase from 5,000 per day to about 8,000.».

«On 4/1 51 hospitals joined the programme successfully and without problems, today 55 more hospitals are added and on 11/1 the last 19 hospitals in island Greece», he stressed and added that «223 vaccination lines are being developed in our hospitals. The daily vaccination capacity will increase from 5,000 per day to about 8,000, possibly a little more. We invest as I said in transparency and accountability and on the platform emvolio.gov.gr are posted daily just before 18:00 the vaccinations that have been carried out in the whole of the territory and in each regional unit of the country.

As Kyriakos Mitsotakis noted, «daily vaccinations will be increased from 5,000 to about 8,000 per day, methodically, safely, transparently and, most importantly, without errors to date. From the very first moment we agreed that our planning principles are three: Safety in the development of vaccination structures and procedures, full transparency and accountability in terms of vaccinations carried out and priority groups, and then speed.».

The Prime Minister's entire introductory statement:

«First of all, I would like to express my satisfaction for the fact that vaccination in our country is proceeding at a satisfactory pace, methodically, safely, transparently and, most importantly, without errors, until today. From the very first moment we agreed that our planning principles are threefold: Safety in the development of vaccination structures and procedures, full transparency and accountability in terms of vaccinations carried out and priority groups, and then speed.

As the wise Greek people say, whoever is in a hurry stumbles. There is no point in speeding up further, when the vaccines licensed to date are only two, the available structures are still relatively limited and, of course, the whole operation is a first for our country and, of course, for the rest of the world.

We are investing in safety and methodicalness and in this context, after the initial pilot phase - which involved 9 hospitals - the first phase of vaccinations started on 4 January and ends on the 20th of this month.

The priority that the vaccination committee had set was clear: Vaccination of health workers in public and private hospitals and of course workers and guests in public and private care and hospitality facilities for the elderly. On 4/1 another 51 hospitals entered the programme successfully and without problems, today another 55 hospitals are being added and on 11/1 the last 19 hospitals in island Greece.

Developed in our hospitals 223 vaccination linesς. The daily vaccination capacity will increase from about 5,000 per day to about 8,000, possibly a little more. We are investing, as I said, in transparency and accountability, and on the platform emvolio.gov.gr the vaccinations that have been carried out in the whole of the country and in every regional unit of the country are posted every day just before 18:00.

It is a process - I want to emphasise this - which is fully digitised from the state-of-the-art warehouses to the vaccination centres., to ensure the necessary control at each link in the chain and immediate intervention where necessary.

Yesterday, 5,538 vaccinations were carried out. In total, almost 27,000 of our citizens have been vaccinated so far. And of course, very importantly, we should keep saying it and supporting it and communicatively from Monday 11/1 the online platform of appointments for our fellow citizens belonging to the age group of 85 years and over is opened.

Those who are already registered in the intangible prescription, they will receive an sms with the proposed appointment. The rest of them, or obviously their relatives who will help them in this process, have three ways to book their appointment from the 20th onwards. Either they can visit the emvolio.gov.gr platform, or they can visit their nearest pharmacy and ask for the support of their neighbourhood pharmacist, or they can go to their neighbourhood CDC, the nearest CDC.

We have tried to make the appointment process as easy as possible to support the widest possible participation of those who need vaccination and belong to the most vulnerable groups of the population. Again, congratulations to the whole team and especially to Mario (Themistocleous), who is overseeing the vaccination process and we are here to support this difficult effort every step of the way.».
