The inauguration of the new sports facilities in Frilingianika were the occasion for open criticism of the President of the Community, George Maravelia, through a public posting by resident Elina Galanopoulou.
The author of the text, after praising the atmosphere of the celebration and the contribution of the volunteers, turns her arrows against the President, accusing him of systematic absence from the island, daily life and the emergency needs of the region. Citing postings on «Diavgeia», Ms.Galanopoulou argues that Mr.Maravelias was absent from the crucial vote on the local budget of 2026, contrasting this fact with his presence at the inauguration event.
Finally, the post raises a question of moral order regarding the legitimate monthly allowance of 400 euros received by the President as «Movement Expenses». The resident acknowledges the legitimacy of the benefit, however, he links it critically to allegations of his long absence from his duties.

The new pitches in Frilingianika
It was a really big event at the opening of the pitches in Frigianica on Sunday, which was a hot day with a breeze that kept us warm.
I retain many, many things from that day:
-A very dear neighbor of mine who told me that he will see his grandchildren playing from the wonderful old cemetery of Kastrisians.
-You know, lots of kids inside the football field playing, kids outside running around excitedly, nothing was stopping them.
-The well-known tennis players of the island who came with their kit to play.
-The Notarades led by Vangelis, the President of our heart, with brothers, friends, comrades from Melissa and children to take care of the premises.
-The world of residents who came to participate in the celebration and the elderly with us.
-The nice hearty treats and treats
-Our local authorities for the consecration and miraculously the President of the Fellowship of Frilingianikon to make an appearance. The truth is that many of us had a hard time recognizing him since we don't live with him outside and inside Kythera.
In the general cheerfulness of the days the community residents were making predictions and bets as to whether it would come, helped by the occasion. For we were not, as a matter of fact, reacting in this way to storms, nor to fires, nor to water shortages, nor to jungle-like grasses, nor to current daily life: lights, trash-strewn streets, squares, circumstances good and bad.
We also cut hands that there was something else besides the taximeter that would not prompt him to show up. On Transparency is the entire City Council record for the 2026 Budget Approval and on page 2, you can see the complete absence of our President in voting for the project.
So the President of the Community of Frilingianikon George Maravelias appeared on Sunday at the inauguration of the new stadiums, sat with the officials, came out in many nice photos, and we the citizens were finally relieved because the 400€, I looked it up, that he gets every month as “Local Presidents” Movement Expenses" paid off for once in 4 years, Yes!
From the same investigation I found that he gets this amount legally because the Municipality cannot cut it because he is absent from his duties, but legal is not always ethical and it is up to each of us to judge. Mr Maravelias G. has been living in Athens for more than half a year and, apart from the fact that he does not appear in public, he does not even vote on the budget which, if anything, concerns us entirely.
Obviously I'm not one of those who would say at this point: Mayor, don't forget to give him the fixed advance, he worked the grand!
