The suspension of the lawyer's party status Theophilos Alexopoulos, announced the SYRIZA, referring to a «frontal conflict with the moral and value load of the party and the Left», and while Mr Alexopoulos has undertaken the defence of one of the accused in the rape case of the 24-year-old girl in Thessaloniki.
Already, after the 24-year-old woman complained in an interview that she was attacked by this lawyer while she was at the Police Station, the head of the Prosecutor's Office of Thessaloniki gave an order for a preliminary examination.
As SYRIZA states, «Mr.. Theophilos Alexopoulos as a lawyer has the self-evident right and obligation to choose to whom he will provide his legal services.
As a member of SYRIZA-Progressive Alliance, however, it cannot be involved in rape victim allegations of “victim blaming”, which come into direct conflict with the moral and value load of the party and the Left.».
«For this reason, the party membership of Mr. Theophilos Alexopoulos is suspended until the case is fully resolved,’ the statement concludes.
