The Cooperation Network of Municipalities of the Attica Islands, is pleased to announce the publication of the book entitled, «Islands of Attica - Aspects of history and culture», which is one of the most important publishing works for the Regional Unit of the Attica Islands and sets the basis for the next major projects to be carried out through the implementation of the approved development strategy of the local programme CLLD/LEADER 2014-2020.
This bilingual book is a cultural project and aims to promote the relations between the Municipalities of the Regional Unit of the Attica Islands, as well as the promotion of the unique beauty of each region, through the presentation of cultural, historical and contemporary events.
The publication of the book is the culmination of the efforts of the Administration and the members of the Network, for its consolidation as one of the most important pillars of support for the Municipalities of the Attica Islands and was funded by the Rural Development Programme (RDP) 2014-2020 of the Local Programme CLLD/LEADER.
The official presentation of the volume will take place next autumn in Piraeus, at a special anniversary event on the occasion of the completion of 5 years since the establishment of the Network of Cooperation of Municipalities of the Attica Islands.
The President of the Network and Mayor of Kythera-Antikythera, Mr. Efstratios Harhalakis, says in his greeting in the introduction of the book:
“The establishment of the Network of Cooperation of Municipalities of the Regional Unit of the Attica Islands in 2016 was a dynamic initiative and movement for the islands of the Saronic Gulf, the region of Troizinias and Methana and the outlying Kythera - Antikythera.
It is a coherent effort, with a vision and a tangible operational outcome. The cooperation of all municipalities with the entities participating in our island network, aims to implement the approved development strategy of the local CLLD / LEADER 2014-2020 programme «Culture and Environment “EN PLO”». Completing its first five years of life, the network has consolidated itself as a reliable and sustainable development tool, constituting one of the main pillars of support for the municipalities of the Attica Islands, contributing decisively to the utilization of several million euros for local communities through the financing of public and private projects, important sectors of the local government, as well as key sectors of the local island economy.
The volume you are holding in your hands is the culmination of five years of effort by the network and its administration to promote local history and the cultural identity of the region of the Regional Unit of the Attica Islands. Through the pages of the book, the reader will travel through time, open a «window» of knowledge and learn about the most important events that define the Attica Islands region. This bilingual book is a cultural work and aims to promote and highlight the relations between the municipalities of the Regional Unit of the Attica Islands, as well as to present the particular beauty of each place. Cultural and historical facts, special traditions, unique ancient findings and contemporary events make up a unique «puzzle», which is a great legacy for future generations.
