Activities of the Mayor in Athens

The Mayor of Kythira, Mr. Efstratios Charhalakis, while in Athens, held the following official meetings:

1. With the Chief of the Fire Department, Lieutenant General Georgios Pournaras, in the «FAROS» building (Ministry of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection). The Mayor explained to the Chief of the Fire Service the basic fire protection parameters that must be applied in Kythira (and Antikythira), providing a detailed and thorough memorandum. In addition, he requested: a) the full functionality of all vehicles and equipment of the Kythira Fire Department, b) an increase in the number of personnel, c) the dispatch of a fire truck with personnel to Antikythira during the fire season, and d) the periodic parking of an aircraft at the Kythira State Airport. It should be noted that, following repeated requests from our municipality, this year's regular subsidy for fire protection measures has almost doubled, meaning that we now have the opportunity to purchase another new fire engine.
2. With the Secretary General for Spatial Planning and Urban Environment, Mr. Efthymios Bakogiannis. The meeting was attended by Deputy Mayor Char. Sougiannis and the Municipality's Technical Advisor, Mr. Dim. Bogiatzis. The issue of the construction of a new road connecting the village of Agia Marina with the coastal road was raised. the issue of the operation of the Building Services (there will be a detailed announcement regarding the actions of the Municipality) as well as the problems caused by unplanned construction following the recent decision of the Council of State 176/2023, a decision that has understandably caused enormous concern among both citizens and the construction industry. Mr. Bakoyannis stated that the government is awaiting the final version of the decision (as only a summary has been published) in order to ascertain the full legal reasoning of the Supreme Court of Appeal. This will be followed by immediate legislation to resolve the issue as painlessly as possible for citizens, always within the framework of the legal order and building regulations.
3. With the Regional Governor of Attica, Mr. George Patoulis, in the presence of the Deputy Regional Governor of the Islands, Mr. Stavros Voidonikola, the Director of Technical Works for Piraeus and the Islands, Mr. Stratos Pagotelis, and the Head of the Technical Support Department for Island Municipalities, Mr. Stavros Veioglou. During the meeting The progress of major projects being carried out on our island with funding from the Region was analyzed. (Makronas, Mormoris, Agia Pelagia Water Supply, Desalination), while A timetable was set for the signing of Program Agreements for new road construction projects (€2,330,000), school upgrades (€1,300,000), the new nursery school in Logothetianika (€350,000), and flood prevention works (€750,000).. Finally, the Mayor informed the Regional Governor about the establishment of the Kythira Energy Community, requesting funding from the new Attica Regional Operational Program, in which relevant action has been provided for.
