We are republishing the Kythira Municipality’s call for public comment on the draft regulations governing the operation of the Potamos open-air market. The announcement follows, and the regulations are attached.
Public Consultation on the Draft Operating Regulations for the Sunday Open-Air Market (Bazaar) of the Kythira River
Following the publication of Law 4497/2017, which threatened to permanently shut down the traditional Potamos market, worked systematically and, in collaboration with renowned legal experts and the relevant Ministry of Development, succeeded in legally preserving the bazaar under the 1927 Decree by which it was established. However, in recent years, the conditions stipulated by law have not been observed at the bazaar, and its purely traditional character—which is exclusively linked to primary production—has been altered, a fact that jeopardizes the very operation of the market; therefore, the drafting and enactment of Operating Regulations are imperative. At the same time, the provisions of the Regulations will contribute to the development of the primary sector as well as to the further promotion of this traditional activity along the River, which is also linked to tourism.
In keeping with its commitment, the Municipal Authority is opening the Draft Operating Regulations for the Potamos Market to public consultation and invites all interested parties to submit their views, suggestions, and comments by Friday, July 24, 2020, at the latest. Comments should be sent exclusively to the following email address: pazari_potamou@kythira.gr along with the full name of each participant.
Organizations (local communities, associations, cooperatives, etc.) will be asked to submit their views in writing.
