The Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) for the construction of the new building is put into consultation three wind farms total power 135 MW in the areas “Carbonolacos - Phoenixes”, “Cordelia” and “Xerocabia” of the Municipality of Kythera, with accompanying works extending to the the Malea peninsula and the Municipality of Monemvasia.
The project is promoted by the company TERNA ENERGY S.R.L.O. in cooperation with the VECTOR Wind farms in Greece and the Wind Park Trulos O.E., with implementing body the latter.
Municipality of Monemvasia: Explicit opposition to the project
Ο Municipality of Monemvasia has formally expressed its opposition to both the siting of wind turbines and the accompanying interconnection projects, particularly in the Malea peninsula, with the decisions 253/2019 and 39/2021 of the City Council.
It stresses the need to protect the natural and cultural character of the area, asking citizens to take action.
The implementation of such pharaonic projects in Kythera and Laconia, without the effective consent of the local communities, raises serious questions about democracy in energy planning, the protection of Natura sites and the burden on the local environment with heavy infrastructure and extensive landscape alteration.
Public consultation is perhaps the most important the only institutional tool for citizens to express their opposition or objections, before the final licensing of the project.

The Municipality of Monemvasia in the context of informing the public and the Municipalities, announces that the Department B’ of the Department of Environmental Licensing (DIPA) of the General Department of Environmental Policy of the Ministry of Environment and Energy (MPEN), has been forwarded to the Regional Environment & Planning Committee of the Peloponnese Region for publication, consultation and opinion, the environmental impact assessment (EIA) file of the project, with the company «TERNA ENERGY S.A. - VECTOR AIOLIKA PARKS OF GREECE - AIOLIKO PARK TROULOS S.A. with registered office AIOLIKO PARK TROULOS S.A.» and with the title:
«Complex of three (3) Wind Power Plants (WPPs) with a total installed capacity of 135MW and a maximum installed capacity of 131,42MW at the sites “KARVOUINOΛAKOS -ΦΟΙΝIKIES” (31,5 MW), “KORDELIDES” (51,96 MW) and “Xerokampia” (47,96MW) of the Municipality of Kythira, Region of Attica, and their accompanying road works, their electrical interconnection to the Continental System and the construction site facilities»., (PET:2408001317).
It is necessary for every citizen - public or institution to submit its views and has the opportunity to do so until 09.07.2025 to the Department of Environment and Hydroeconomics of the P.E. of Laconia, and by participating in the public consultation through the Electronic Environmental Register (EER) of the Ministry of Environment and Energy (eprm.ypen.gr) with its codes.
Noted that the Municipality of Monemvasia has expressed its opposition to any siting of wind turbines and accompanying projects of RES-E, such as those of the Electric Interconnection with the Continental System in the Peninsula of Malea, with the decisions of the Board of Directors No. 253/2019 & No. 39/2021. The Municipality has the right to participate in the consultation until 9η July 2025.
