Yoga is described as a «tool for managing emotional situations» by Physical Education teacher Dimitra Harilaou, in an interview with Kythera.News and Nikos Antonakis. Dimitra describes Kythera -which she met for the first time in the summer of 2021 and fell in love in an instant- as a place that ideally suits the internal energy that yoga activates in humans. «Yoga is an internal process,» she says, «a philosophical system which, through physical exercises, breathing techniques and meditation practices, helps to calm the fluctuations of the mind.».
This personalized approach to yoga, of course, does not negate the broader appeal and acceptance that it enjoys in all walks of life, in every gender, age, religious or ethnic background, as he explains. To this end, she is involved in a variety of community outreach activities, as evidenced by her partnerships with schools, her involvement in interdisciplinary videos for OPAP's Sports Academies online and her involvement with people over 65 to whom she offers exercise and, through it, quality of life.
That, after all, is the point, as he confesses. «Lifelong practice», as a way of life, so that people, through work and practice, learn to better manage their bodies and, through them, their emotions and their mental world. «I want to bring people closer together», through what I do, confides the girl with the disarming smile, who declares herself a lover of ceramics and sailing and can boast of the championship path she has charted in tennis, a path that has brought her to the national team and given her many successes.
