«A modern live basketball court!
With the President of the Kythera Nautical Sports Club Stavros Charos and several parents, I had the great pleasure to attend today the first training session of our young friends at the new modern sports center in Manitochori, which will be officially inaugurated in a few days!
NAOK started the Basketball Academy on our island, utilizing this state-of-the-art sports infrastructure, which with so much struggle and effort we studied, matured, licensed, financed (Region) and now we deliver it to use. Every sports club can look forward to working with the Municipality, after all, these infrastructures want the active participation of sports clubs to operate.
The place is unique! Modern, with GGA and SEGA specifications. With a refreshment room, separate men's and women's changing rooms, WC for disabled people and a medical centre!
The coach of NAOK, Vangelis Avgerinos, with great experience in basketball, told me “Mayor, even big cities do not have such an excellent court, in a non-school area”!
Of all the votes of the world, I prefer to keep this statement, from a man who knows basketball well and has played and coached all over Greece!
We will continue to build modern sports infrastructure like this on our island! Soon the big sports projects will start in Potamos (11X11 football field) and in Frilingianika (5X5 football field and tennis court) with stands, changing rooms etc.! One of our first actions after the elections, to complete the studies for the Indoor Training Centre in Pitsinianika, where we have already obtained the concession of the use of the site from the Church of St. George. The basketball courts in Avlemon and St. Pelagia will soon be upgraded.
All these, which are not just empty words, prove that only we have a clear and feasible policy for sport on the island. As long as some people insist on blaming and downgrading the projects we are doing (really how few people are finally when they “argue” against such projects...), we will do more!».
