In a post, the mayor of Kythira, Efstratios Charhalakis, refers to the official data on passenger traffic in Kythira, noting that during the quarter May–July 2026 saw the highest number of arrivals on the island since 2014.
According to the data it released, the total number of arrivals through the island’s entry points amounted to:
- May–July 2025: 46,823 arrivals
- May–July 2026: 49,322 arrivals
It is about 2,499 more arrivals, which corresponds to an increase of approximately 5,3% compared to the same period last year.
As sources for the data, the mayor cites the Kythira Port Authority and Kythera State Airport, so the data covers total arrivals by ferry and air.
Mr. Charchalakis accompanied the figures with a pointed comment, writing that «Official data is the best response to those who thrive on misery», arguing that this year's tourist traffic paints a positive picture.
These figures are particularly interesting because they pertain to the period before the peak of the August season and, according to the mayor, they place 2026 in the best position of the last twelve years in terms of arrivals for that specific quarter.
