Region of Attica: New school infrastructure in Kythira and Markopoulo

New school infrastructure in the municipalities of Markopoulo-Mesogaia and Kythira, funded by the Region of Attica. Funding for the design studies totals 653,000.

G. Patoulis: «Our children deserve to have safe and welcoming schools, just like their peers throughout the EU.»

The «green» light for the preparation of studies for the creation of new school infrastructure in the Porto Rafti and Kythira was awarded following the signing of the relevant contracts at the offices of KTYP S.A. Funding for the studies exceeds 653,000 euros and will be provided through the «Attica» Regional Operational Program (ROP) 2014–2020.

The contracts were signed by the CEO of «Ktiriaches Ypodomes S.A.» T. Giannari and the contractors' representatives at the offices of KTYP S.A., in the presence of G. Patoulis, Regional Governor of Attica, of Mayor Markopoulou –Konstantinos Allagiannis of Mesogaia, son of Stathis, Head of Technical Services for the Municipality of Kythira and representative of the Mayor of Kythira, Mr. Charhalakis. Also present was the Head of the Regional Managing Authority D. Drosis, the President of Building Infrastructure (KtYp S.A.) T. Katsipos, the Deputy Mayor for Social Protection and Solidarity, Education, Culture, Sports, and Youth of the Municipality of Markopoulo-Mesogaia Meni Vamboraki and civil servants.

Specifically, the two contracts that were signed are funded under Priority Axis 11 of the 2014–2020 Attica Regional Operational Program.

  • The first concerns the “Preparation of studies, obtaining the necessary approvals, and issuance of a building permit for the addition of classrooms to the Kythira Junior and Senior High School.” Tender budget for the study: €202,320.01.
  • The second item is «Preparation of studies, required approvals, and issuance of a building permit for the 2nd 9-classroom Elementary School in Porto Rafti.” Project tender budget: €451,235.02.

During the signing ceremony, KTYP S.A. executives praised the «constructive and fruitful» collaboration with the Region of Attica and, personally, with the Regional Governor, who in turn expressed his firm commitment to prioritizing the creation of modern and safe school infrastructure throughout Attica. He also highlighted the excellent cooperation with the executives of KTYP S.A., noting a harmonious partnership that has yielded tangible results. He also expressed special recognition and warm thanks to the Head of the Managing Authority, D. Drosis, as well as to all the relevant officials of the Region and the Municipalities.

Our children deserve safe and welcoming schools, just like their peers throughout the EU.”. New schools mean strengthening children's skills and investing in the future. We are constantly working with the municipalities and the executives of KtYp S.A. for the sake of our children, who are the hope of our region. Our goal is to continue this collaboration at the same pace—and even faster—during the new 2021–2027 Programming Period, so that our region of Attica has the necessary infrastructure and equipment at all levels of education, starting with preschool and continuing through primary and secondary education,», G. Patoulis emphasized, among other things.

It should be noted that, to date, a total of 23 feasibility studies for new school facilities have been included in the 2014–2020 Attica Regional Operational Program, with a total budget of approximately €6 million. These projects are part of the funding framework for feasibility studies provided by KtYp S.A., with the aim of rapidly advancing the process of launching development projects under the new 2021–2027 Programming Period.

Mr. Patoulis also noted that the new NSRF for 2021–2027 includes additional measures for:

○ the energy retrofit of school buildings,

○ improving access to school facilities,

○ modern training equipment.

For his part, the CEO of Ktirakes Infrastructures S.A. T. Giannaris He personally thanked the Regional Governor, the regional officials, and the mayors for their excellent cooperation, noting: «Today we signed the contracts for the design studies for the construction of the 2nd Porto Rafti Elementary School (9-classroom) and the addition of classrooms to the – High School of Kythira, with funding from the Region of Attica. The implementation of this ambitious program to build numerous new, modern school facilities throughout Attica is the result of our excellent collaboration with the Region of Attica — our esteemed Regional Governor, Mr. Patoulis. The mission of «Ktiriaches Ypodomes S.A.» and our top priority is to contribute, with all our resources, to upgrading educational infrastructure and improving the quality of education provided for the benefit of the younger generation, who are our future.».

Similarly, the Chairman of the Board of Directors of KtYp S.A. T. Katsipos He referred to the significant cooperation that exists with both the Regional Governor and the officials of the Managing Authority, while emphasizing that the Region’s funding tools are now being utilized to the fullest, noting that, historically, no school infrastructure program of this scale has ever been implemented before, and that this is the result of the Region’s contribution and the good cooperation with the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport.

For his part, the Mayor of Markopoulo-Mesogaia, K. Alagiannis, thanked both Regional Governor G. Patoulis and the executives of KTYP S.A., and then emphasized: «The students and teaching staff will soon enjoy a brand-new and perfectly suited 9-classroom elementary school, with a capacity of 225 students, finally bringing to a close a full 20-year period during which they were forced to operate in a rented building due to its unsuitability.».
