Letter to the President of the Parliament, Kostas Tasoulas, sent the head of MP25, Yanis Varoufakis. The occasion was the speech of the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky (next Thursday 7 April) in plenary.
The leader of the Left Party denounces the procedure that was decided, saying that it turns the Parliament into a place of monologue and not dialogue.
«Respect for Parliament demanded, at the very least, that the chairmen of the parliamentary groups be given the opportunity for a short debate, a short extension of the procedure, but one that would prevent the unacceptable transformation of Parliament into a place for speeches. If President Zelenski is unable to follow the debates in real time, the Parliament could take responsibility for forwarding them to them,» Varoufakis said in his letter, adding:
«If you insist on this procedure, at best, the government is turning MPs and Parliament into a place of monologues. There is a worst case scenario. The government is trying to further divide society by dividing parties and MPs into applauders and abstainers. Whatever the case, the very existence of Parliament is being brutally damaged.
The vast majority of the wings of the Parliament have expressed themselves positively (ND, SYRIZA, KIN.AL.). KKE and Hellenic Solution disagreed and said they would abstain, while MP25 agreed with the speech but not with the procedure and will be represented by only one MP.
