Animasyros 2022 returns to Syros on September 20-25 for its 15th edition with a rich programme of screenings, discussions and parallel events. The main pillar of the Festival are the educational workshops aimed at children, teenagers, young professionals, seniors and people with disabilities.
This year, the theme of the workshops is based on the 100th anniversary of the Asia Minor Catastrophe and in this context, in cooperation with the Association of Asia Minorists of Ermoupolis Syros, participants are invited to be inspired by literary quotations, photographs, traditional music from Asia Minor, recorded and written testimonies and create animation films with the guidance of experienced instructors from Greece and abroad.
Thus, Animasyros 2022 will host the three-day workshop for teenagers, “Animating the past”, with the talented Romanian filmmaker Paul Muresan as instructor for another year. Using the song “Smyrna Minor” as a starting point and using pastel colours on paper, participants will reanimate the past as it is vital to remember where we came from and where we choose to go. In addition, the one-day workshop for children, “Yet It Moves”, with the Syrian cartoonist and illustrator Yannis Xagoraris, will take place in the beautiful Posidonia. Participants will make their own personal flipbook.
The workshop, aimed at adults and young professionals, will be led by the up-and-coming Israeli animator who lives and works in France, Mor Israeli. Using an excerpt from Ilias Venezis« »Aeoliki Γη« and the traditional song »Thalassa spite" as a starting point, we will explore and animate the concepts of migration and refugee for a lost past, a new present, and an unknown future.
Applications for these three workshops open on 23 August via the website www.animasyros.gr. More information is available at education2@animasyros.gr.
In addition to these, an educational workshop for disabled people with Elena Pavlaki as a trainer is organized in cooperation with the Municipality of Syros Ermoupolis, while the veterans of the active KAPI of the Municipality of Syros Ermoupolis will create their films with the animator, graphic designer and trainer Margarita Simopoulou.
Finally, in cooperation with the DELASAL Syros Education Centres, a three-day educational workshop for the school's students is organized with the instructor Charalambos Margaritis, director of the film "Landmarks of Hellenism": Ermoupolis, produced by Animasyros and on the occasion of this film.
