The Russian oligarch, Roman Abramovich and some Ukrainian negotiators were poisoned earlier this month after a meeting in Kiev, according to the Wall Street Journal.
Abramovich, taking on a mediating role to resolve the crisis, held talks with the Ukrainian president, Volodymyr Zelensky and his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin.
According to the American newspaper, Abramovich and at least two members of the Ukrainian negotiating team showed symptoms such as red eyes, constant and painful tearing, and peeling skin on their faces and hands. Their condition has improved and their lives are not in danger. It is unknown what caused these symptoms.
The newspaper reports that they blamed their «suspicious» poisoning on «hardliners» in Moscow who wanted to sabotage the peace talks. A person close to Abramovich said it was unclear who had targeted them.
According to the article, Western experts examined the incident and said it was difficult to determine whether the symptoms were caused by a chemical or biological agent or some kind of electromagnetic-radiological attack.
