Aitinos singer Michael Benjamin, known by his stage name Mikaben, died last night on stage during a concert at the Accor Arena in Paris at the age of 41, the concert venue's management announced.
Mickaben, who was singing at the time with the Haitian band Kompa Carimi, “died after suddenly feeling unwell on stage and despite receiving first aid,” the Accor Arena team wrote on Twitter, saying they were shocked by the news.
The concert was immediately interrupted and the concert venue was evacuated, according to several witnesses.
According to videos posted on social media, the singer suddenly collapsed as he was leaving the stage.
He was invited by the band Carimi, formed in the 2000s, for a one-off concert in France.
Born in Port-au-Prince in 1981, Micaben was a singer, composer, and producer. He had performed several successful songs with the band Carimi, including “Baby I Missed You” and “Fanm sa Move.”.
