The President of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola, announced that she had received the requests of the European Public Prosecutor's Office to waive the immunity of Eva Kaili and Maria Spyraki.
The request to lift the immunity of Maria Spyraki is referred to the Legal Affairs Committee, the EP President said.
It is recalled that the European Public Prosecutor's Office, at the end of December, requested the waiver of the immunity of Eva Kaili and Maria Spyraki, due to alleged fraud against the EU budget. This fraud is linked to the management of their parliamentary allowances and the remuneration of their accredited assistants in the European Parliament and has nothing to do with the Qatar corruption case.
In addition, the President of the European Parliament announced the request for the defence of parliamentary immunity by George Kyrtsos, in the context of the complaint he has made against the Greek authorities on the telephone tapping. The request had been referred to the Committee on Legal Affairs.
