«Enslaved Kyrenia»: Ukraine and the «repositioning of the Cyprus problem»

The "Unconquered Kyrenia" Association states in a press release:

«THE WAR IN UKRAINE AND ITS INTERNATIONAL MANAGEMENT, HAVE PAVED THE WAY FOR A REASSESSMENT OF THE CYPRUS ISSUE AS WELL.”.

WILL OUR LEADERS ACT ON THIS, I WONDER??;

The war in Ukraine and the international handling of the conflict have paved the way for the Cyprus issue to be put back on the right track. 

With the beginning and the development  the Russian invasion of  Ukraine, Europe, Britain, the United States, and the rest of the Western countries reacted collectively by condemning the invasion:

• As a violation of international law
• As a violation of the sovereign rights of the Ukrainian State
• As a violation of the human rights of the Ukrainian people.

They also allege that crimes were committed as a result of the invasion  war crimes committed by the aggressor and hold the aggressor accountable before the International Criminal Court  The Hague Tribunal, regarding the war crimes of which he is accused. These allegations were made directly and officially to the institutions of Europe and the Organization of  The UN (Security Council and General Assembly) condemned the aggressor. In fact, this is exactly what happened without examining or discussing the reason or any justification put forward by Russia for the invasion.

The report of the intrusion is accompanied, from the outset,  from the collective demands of the West, such as Russia:

• End the war and
• It is withdrawing its troops from Ukrainian territory

In response to Russia's refusal to halt the invasion, they decided to immediately impose sweeping and crippling sanctions on it, without even following the legal procedures established as standard practice  International Law.

In addition, since the start of the war, they have been sending large sums of money and military equipment to Ukraine to help it counter the invasion.

Our Western «allies» did none of these things in the case of the Turkish invasion of Cyprus, the ongoing occupation, and the secessionist actions of the Turkish occupier.  On the contrary, Westerners  «allies»  behaved, with regard to the Cyprus issue, in a completely different way:

• From the very beginning, they provided diplomatic cover for the Turkish invasion
• Instead of taking a stand against the invader, as was done with Russia, they blocked every anti-occupation effort by the Cypriot government and imposed on the Cypriot government and the Cypriot people an illegal processcourse of bicommunal talks, with a predetermined outcome of compromise with the occupation and the legitimization of the «consequences» that the Turkish invasion has brought upon our country. 
• They deceitfully imposed a policy of appeasement toward our invading occupier, instead of sanctions and punishment. 
• Since 1988, they have manipulated the political life of our country through the so-called «diplomatic channel» and «democratic procedures,» in violation of every principle of law and democracy, and led the Cyprus issue from one concession to another, to a degeneration of its very essence and into dead ends that provided time for the acceptance and consolidation of Turkey’s illegal secessionist actions on Cypriot territory as a fait accompli.
• After 48 years of this journey, pressure is mounting today on the Republic of Cyprus  and for our people to capitulate 

The diametrically opposed stance of the West  In UKRAINIAN, it reveals that their stance toward Cyprus thus far has been deliberate and calculated, serving exclusively Turkey and their own plans and interests. Not only that, but their stance toward us confirms their culpability in the Cyprus issue and justifies the characterization—based on the available evidence—that they are the instigators and moral architects of our tragedy. 

The policy pursued by the West in Ukraine, with all its rhetoric in favor of international law, etc., etc., justifies the  the long-standing positions of Unconquered Kyrenia that The Cyprus issue should have been addressed, in essence, as a matter of invasion and occupation—a violation of international law—and not as a bicommunal dispute, which our Western «allies,»,  They have «pushed» it and are keeping it going.

Our defeatist leaders, who for decades have turned a deaf ear  to the foreign conspirators and  have adopted, in the case of Cyprus, a policy of blindly and uncritically compromising with the occupation and legitimizing the status quo created by the occupation, They now have no excuse to insist on and seek to continue with a bicommunal dialogue aimed at a federal solution to the Cyprus problem.

We would therefore like to reiterate that given the current international management of Ukraine, this has also paved the way for reframing the Cyprus issue on exactly the same basis as the Ukraine issue. With the Cyprus issue reframed, we should therefore aim to  :

• End the bicommunal talks on a solution to the Cyprus problem
• An end to the Turkish occupation through the withdrawal of Turkish occupation forces and Turkish and European settlers. To achieve this, if necessary,  to set all legal procedures in motion and take all appropriate actions  and for measures to be taken against Turkey that are comparable to those that were taken  against Russia. As provided for in the UN Charter.
• Thus, the territorial integrity of the Republic of Cyprus and the exercise of authority and sovereignty by the Cypriot Government over the whole of Cyprus should be restored
• The human rights of all refugees and displaced persons must be restored through their return and resettlement (Greeks, Ottomans, Armenians, Maronites, and Latins who are lawful residents of Cyprus) to their ancestral homes.
• The existing, Zurich Constitution of the Republic of Cyprus be renewed through the prescribed democratic procedures, in accordance with UN Resolution 186, so that the Republic of Cyprus may finally function as a unified, democratic, European state, in which the majority will govern, with the rights of minorities fully guaranteed  and   in which all law-abiding citizens, equal before the law,   They will live in peace and prosperity in our shared homeland, Cyprus.
• Turkey as an invading conqueror, such as  and her accomplices, the masterminds behind our tragedy,

• be indicted and brought before the International Criminal Court in The Hague for the crimes committed against the Republic of Cyprus and our people, and,
• to pay the war reparations they owe to both the Republic of Cyprus and the Cypriot people.

So, today's tragic events in Ukraine and the way the events are being handled by the parties involved serve as both an opportunity and a wake-up call for us to reassess the political approach our leaders are taking to our own tragedy. 

"Unconquered Kyrenia" conducted its own assessment and submits her own proposal, with the following caveat: Woe and Alas EVEN IF OUR LEADERS TODAY DO NOT FOLLOW THE PATH PAVED BY THE WEST’S STANCE ON UKRAINE, regardless of its final outcome, and reposition the Cyprus issue.  THEY WILL BRING THEM INTACT THE RESPONSIBILITY FOR WHAT WILL FOLLOW LIKE AN AVALANCHE FALLS ON US.
