The President of SYRIZA-PS, Alexis Tsipras, escalates his attack on the government and Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis. In a statement, he insists on the removal of Culture Minister Lina Mendoni and asks the Prime Minister to assume his political responsibilities.
In his statement, Alexis Tsipras said, «For more than twenty days the country has been facing shocking revelations. For the past twenty-five years, Greece has been facing a major crime involving the rape of minors and possibly a trafficking and paedophilia ring. But also a major scandal involving the attempted cover-up of these heinous acts. Mr Mitsotakis bears a heavy political responsibility. And it would be good at this time to stop playing communication tricks. The major issue of concern to the whole of Greek society, regardless of party preferences, is not the level of public debate, but the heavy moral and political responsibilities of his government. I therefore call on him, even with the benefit of hindsight, to do the obvious. Remove Mrs Mendoni from her ministerial duties. And to apologise to the victims and to the Greek people for the mistakes and omissions of his government, taking the political responsibility that is his due.
