The National Anniversary of March 25th in Kythera is expected to be celebrated with due pomp and honour, according to the official programme issued by the Municipality of Kythera. The events to mark the 205th anniversary of the Greek Revolution will culminate on Wednesday, March 25, 2026, in the island's Chora.
The celebration will begin with the general flag-raising of all public buildings, banks and houses, which will last from the morning of 24 March until the evening of 25 March.. At the same time, during the evening hours of these two days, the public and municipal shops will be illuminated.
The 25 March programme
The main events on the day include:
- 11:00 am: Official Doxology at the Metropolitan Holy Church of the Crucified in Chora of Kythera.
- 11:30 am: Memorial service at Stai Square.
- Laying of Wreaths: There will be a wreath-laying ceremony at the Memorial of the Fallen by the Mayor of Kythera, Mr. Efstratios Harhalakis, representatives of the security forces, the Property Department, the municipal factions, the Piraeus Chamber of Commerce and the student youth.
- Ceremony: A minute's silence will be observed and the National Anthem will be played.
- Speech: The Mayor of Kythera will deliver the solemn speech of the day.
Parade and traditional dances
The celebration will be completed with the dance events by the students of the island's schools and the student parade.. The events will be accompanied musically by the Potamos Philharmonic Orchestra, under the direction of Mr. Panagiotis Leftheris.
