An important initiative for youth and sports on the island of Kythera is on track to be implemented. In a statement, the parish priest of the Holy Church of the Dormition of the Virgin Mary «Konteletous», Protopresbyter Panagiotis Megalokonomos, informs about the start of the restoration works at the stadium «Panagiotis Spyridonos Priest Cook».
The project is made possible thanks to the generous sponsorship of Mr. Ioannis Faceas (Fouriaris), which covers the cost of the restoration work. At the same time, the project engineer, Mr. Andreas Lourantos, is proceeding with the necessary bureaucratic procedures for the full licensing of the sports venue.
In its message of thanks, the parish praises the continuous and long-standing contribution of Mr. Faceas to the island, noting that his action is not limited to sports and youth, but also extends to the care of the elderly through significant donations to the Kythira Nursing Home.
«We thank him warmly and we wish him that Our Lady protects him and gives him health and clarity of mind,» the statement said.
As Fr. Panagiotis Megalokonomos points out, the ancient Greek saying «A healthy mind in a healthy body» remains the guide for these initiatives, highlighting the importance of physical exercise for the mental balance of the residents.
The following is the thanksgiving of the parish of I.N. Dormition of the Virgin Mary of Konteletous:
THANK YOU
With the sponsorship of Mr.Ioannis Fatsea (Fouriaris), the restoration works of the «Panagiotis Spyridonos Iereos Magiros» stadium of Panagia «Konteletous» started, while the project engineer Mr.Andreas Lourantos is proceeding with the actions for the licensing.
Mr. Ioannis Faceas has stood by us all these years and has offered the most to our island both for our youth and for our elderly with his donations to our Nursing Home.
We thank him warmly and we wish that Our Lady protects him and gives him health and clarity of mind.
Also, it is pleasant that sport is being promoted on the island with the great projects of the Municipality (Potamos, Kastrisianikon, Manitochori). «A healthy mind in a healthy body» our ancestors used to say and they knew something.
